A lovely surprise...

Christmas was over a few days ago but the festive spirit was still in the air especially when I was surprised with a  ticket to Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker from my best friend. The Nutcracker returns to Sadlers Wells Theatre in order to celebrate its 20th anniversary of the non- traditionalist performance.
The show was a memorizing feast of candy and sparkle. With the first scene set in the bleak nightmarish orphanage Anthony Ward quickly establishes the dreary lives of the children. Yet when the set cracks in half we enter an ice coated fantasy which takes us to a fluffy cotton candy land of rainbow colours and sweets galore. Not only were the costumes sugar coated with liquorice all-sorts that flamenco and marshmellow girls that elegantly bounce around the stage to the beat of the music but the dancing is breathtaking at first sight as they glide effortlessly on the floor and in the air.
This show can't help but put you in a good mood with its light hearted comic effect even if your not a ballet fanatic you can't help but be in awe of the entire show.
